The Ali Forney Center is one of the largest and most recognized organizations in the country dedicated to LGBTQ+ homeless youth. Based in New York City and named after a gay youth of color who was murdered while living on the streets, the Ali Forney Center provides housing, healthcare, and supportive services to homeless LGBTQ+ youth in New York and maintains a national directory to help young people find affirming housing resources wherever they are.

Their services in New York include emergency drop-in centers, transitional housing, medical and mental health care, job training, and life skills support. Their national outreach helps LGBTQ+ youth outside New York access resources in their own communities. The organization is explicit that no young person should have to choose between safety and being who they are.

For LGBTQ+ youth experiencing housing insecurity anywhere in the country, the Ali Forney Center’s national resource directory is one of the most useful tools available. For those in or near New York City, the organization offers some of the most comprehensive direct services for homeless LGBTQ+ youth in the United States.
