Community & Support Groups, HIV/AIDS Support, and Mental Health & Therapy
Compass Community Center, officially Compass LGBTQ+ Community Center, has been a safe space and support system for LGBTQ+ people and those living with or affected by HIV and AIDS in Palm Beach County and South Florida since 1988. Located in Lake Worth Beach, Compass connects people to care, resources, and community through a wide range of services built around the real and layered needs of the people they serve.
HIV services are among the most comprehensive in the region. Compass offers free, confidential rapid HIV testing Monday through Thursday 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Friday 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and the first and third Saturdays of the month. A CAN Community Health clinic operates inside the center, offering STI testing and treatment, PrEP linkage, and full HIV care. Case management serves more than 400 people per year in Palm Beach County, helping people access food assistance, transportation, legal services, ADAP prescription support, Ryan White health insurance assistance, mental health counseling, and more. Free safer sex kits, Narcan, fentanyl test strips, and Plan B are also available at no cost.
Mental health services include individual and relationship counseling on a sliding scale, therapy groups, peer support groups, youth mental health support with free individual therapy, and professional development for mental health providers. Counseling is offered via telehealth as well.
The Compass Youth Program is one of the longest-running and largest LGBTQ+ youth programs in the southeastern United States, serving young people ages 11 to 18 through a daily drop-in center open Monday through Friday 3:00 to 7:00 PM, weekly support groups by age, a social group for gender-diverse youth, the Equality Prom, Lavender Graduation, and Authentically YOUth, a group for transgender children ages 3 to 11 and their families. A Proud Parent Support Group is also available for families of LGBTQ+ youth.
Additional programming includes education and advocacy, a Doctors After Dark health series, the Legacy Project intergenerational storytelling experience, and the After Slay ballroom culture group for youth.
