GLAAD’s substance use and addiction resources section provides affirming information and resource connections for LGBTQ+ people navigating addiction, recovery, and sobriety. LGBTQ+ people experience substance use disorders at significantly higher rates than the general population, driven by minority stress, family rejection, trauma, and limited access to affirming care. GLAAD’s resources acknowledge these realities directly.

The section includes guides to finding LGBTQ-affirming treatment programs, information about harm reduction, and connections to national resources for people at different stages of their relationship with substances. GLAAD also uses its media and culture platform to reduce stigma around addiction in LGBTQ+ communities and to advocate for treatment programs that do not require people to hide their identity to receive care.

For LGBTQ+ people in recovery, or for those who are questioning their relationship with substances, finding a space that is both queer-affirming and recovery-focused can be one of the hardest parts of getting support. GLAAD’s resources help bridge that gap.
