OASIS Florida
Community & Support Groups, Gender-Affirming Care, and HIV/AIDS Support
OASIS Florida — originally Okaloosa AIDS Support and Informational Services — has been serving the HIV/AIDS community in Northwest Florida since 1991. Founded in response to the lack of HIV support and education in the Florida Panhandle, OASIS grew from the vision of David Neal, who devoted the last year of his life to making sure this community would not be without care. That origin story still shapes what OASIS does today: practical, accessible, compassionate HIV prevention and support in a part of Florida that has historically had far fewer resources than its urban counterparts.
Services include rapid HIV and syphilis testing with appointment at their Pensacola and Fort Walton Beach offices, Hepatitis C testing and treatment in partnership with CAN Community Health, free STI testing by blood draw through that same partnership, and PrEP education and linkage. A mobile testing unit travels across the Panhandle to bring testing to community events and locations where people may not otherwise have easy access to care. Free condoms are available for individuals and businesses willing to host distribution canisters.
Case management connects people living with HIV to Ryan White Medical Services and helps with treatment adherence, food access, housing, and broader social services. The Peer Program pairs clients with HIV-positive staff members who serve as navigators, helping people advocate for themselves within a complex healthcare system. Transgender resources are available including insurance navigation, Florida name change guidance, hormone access support for uninsured individuals, and a Trans Outreach Coordinator reachable by phone.
OASIS Florida is one of the few HIV-focused organizations serving Northwest Florida and the Panhandle, a region where rural isolation and limited resources make this kind of on-the-ground work especially meaningful.
