The Well Project

Community & Support Groups, HIV/AIDS Support, and Mental Health & Therapy

The Well Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to changing the course of the HIV/AIDS epidemic by focusing on women, girls, and people who are pregnant or trying to become pregnant. Founded in 2003, it centers an often-overlooked population in HIV care and advocacy: cisgender women, transgender women, and nonbinary people who carry the disproportionate burden of HIV globally and in the United States.

The Well Project provides medically accurate, accessible information about HIV treatment, prevention, pregnancy, mental health, and navigating the healthcare system. Their resource library is written in accessible language and covers topics including disclosure, stigma, treatment adherence, and family planning. A Women’s Toolkit and a Women and HIV Leadership Institute support community advocacy and peer education.

For LGBTQ+ women, transgender women, and nonbinary people living with or at risk for HIV, The Well Project offers resources that center their specific experiences rather than asking them to find themselves in information written primarily for cisgender men. It is a meaningful and underrecognized resource in this space.
